Benalmádena (Málaga), one of the most important tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol, has taken a step forward in the modernisation of its waste collection system with the installation of CONTENUR's OVAL model side-loading containers. The commissioning of this new infrastructure in September 2024 responds to the growing demand for efficient solutions for urban waste management, especially during the summer season, when the municipality's population multiplies due to the large influx of tourists.
Side-loading has established itself as the most efficient system for waste collection in urban environments with a high density of floating population. Thanks to this system, collection times are optimised and the presence of waste on the streets is reduced, improving the image of the municipality and offering a cleaner environment for residents and visitors. This initiative is part of the council's commitment to optimising waste collection and promoting more sustainable practices among its citizens.
The OVAL containers, well-known for their ergonomic and accessible design, have a capacity of 3,000 litres and are made of injected polyethylene, which makes them 100% recyclable at the end of their useful life. Their reduced height makes them easy to use for people with reduced mobility, and they have pedal-operated opening systems and universal accessibility openings, depending on the fraction of waste to be deposited. They also incorporate centring elements at the base to prevent displacement and guarantee road safety.
The installation of these containers adds to the previous efforts of the Town Council to improve waste management in the city.
With these actions, Benalmádena reinforces its commitment to the environment and sustainability, offering its citizens more efficient and accessible tools for the correct separation and recycling of waste.
